Joshua and Jessica
Team Expansion
Joshua and Jessica met at Ozark Christian College while both pursuing a future in overseas missions and were married in August, 2004. They graduated from OCC in May 2006 and, partnering with the missions sending organization Team Expansion, headed to the field in January 2007.
Joshua and Jessica are part of a new team with the goal of starting a church planting movement among an unreached people group in East Asia. There are hundreds of ethnic minorities scattered throughout East Asia who are completely unreached by the Gospel having no knowledge of the name of Jesus.
"We believe that God is sending us to take His word to one of East Asia’s many distinct people groups who do not have a living church among them and have not had the opportunity to respond to the message of the Gospel. Ultimately, our goal is to plant a church within this people group, this will be an indigenous church, a growing church, and a missionary church. The vision is to set in action a movement in which the planted church goes on to share the message of Jesus. This will result in more and more churches being planted throughout their people group, throughout East Asia, and so on. We plan to carry this out by developing sincere relationships among these unbelievers and revealing the truth of Jesus and the love of God to them. When believers have been established in the group, we will follow through in training and discipling leaders from among the national believers. These leaders will exemplify the Christian life in devotion, obedience to God, the study of His word, and prayer. It is our intention that the national believers themselves will determine, through study and understanding of the Scriptures, how the church will take shape among them. This will produce an "indigenous" church that is relevant within the culture and displays a true expression of the hearts of these national believers. The role of leadership will be predominately carried by the nationals, who will take responsibility of the church, making it their own and freeing it from being dependent on foreign missionaries. Ultimately, our goal will be to make ourselves no longer necessary in that setting as the national believers take full responsibility, under the leading of the Holy Spirit, of the church’s development, and its growth."
